Seven Tips to Help You Stay Healthy

Health and body improvements top the New Year’s resolution list for many people. Unfortunately, springtime is when these resolutions fail to materialize after people fall back into old bad habits.

Being well takes time and effort, after all. A healthy body and lifestyle is necessary both to undertake plastic surgery procedures, and to retain the results once you do undertake the procedure.

Keep these health tips in mind as you strive to stick to your New Year’s resolutions and make 2015 your healthiest year yet:

  • Change one thing at a time. Some people are good at making radical changes to their life, but most can increase their chances of succeeding by focusing on one small step at a time. If you’re trying to improve both your diet and exercise regimen, for example, focus on one until it becomes a habit—then bring the other one in.
  • Take a walk. Extreme exercise regimens get all the attention, but the truth is that most people can benefit a lot simply from walking more every day. Using half of your lunch break to take a walk can make just as much of an impact on your health as doing more strenuous exercise several times a week.
  • Get more sleep. Lack of sleep has been proven to increase stress and promote weight gain, along with many other negative effects. It also takes a toll on the face and under-eye area in particular. Aim for at least 7 hours of sleep a night, and try to stay consistent with it.
  • Eat breakfast. Starting off the day right with a healthy breakfast will help keep you full and encourage you to make healthy choices for the remainder of the day. Numerous studies have shown that those who eat breakfast have better impulse control later on in the day.
  • Add one healthy option to every meal. Coming back to the “small changes” concept, try to add one healthy food to each of your meals. For example, even if you’re eating fast food, opt for the fruit cup instead of the fries. The small changes will make a difference.
  • Find a type of exercise you actually like. More important than the type of exercise you do is the regularity you do it with. You’re much more likely to stick to an exercise regimen if you find it fun, so experiment until you find one that’s a good fit for you.
  • Lower your stress levels. Research over the past few years has shown a clear link between stress levels and weight gain (as well as overall poor health). Find the main stressors in your life and find a way to remove them.

Remember, even if you feel like you might have already left your New Year’s resolutions behind, you can always start again right away. The New Year start is arbitrary. Use the tips above to exact positive change for your body and your health.
