Liposuction and Fat Transfer Buttock Augmentation: A Newly Popular Combo

Liposuction and Fat Transfer

Occasionally, depending on what results a particular patient is looking for, two cosmetic procedures performed at the same time can lead to better results than either of the procedures performed separately. The combination of liposuction and fat transfer buttock augmentation, also known as a Brazilian butt lift, is one such pairing that makes a lot of sense to do at the same time.

Fat transfer procedures are an increasingly popular type of cosmetic surgery that allows fat removed from one part of the body via liposuction to be used to enhance another part of the body without the use of artificial implants.

Currently, buttock enhancement with fat grafting is the 4th fastest-growing cosmetic procedure, up 26% from 2015 to 2016. We wrote about this phenomenon last year, and the trend seems to show no signs of slowing down. Here’s how liposuction and fat transfer procedures can be combined to produce the buttock augmentation with fat grafting.

The Liposuction

The doctor starts the liposuction procedure by using a thin, hollow suction tube to harvest the donor fat cells. Once the doctor has obtained a sufficient amount of fat, he or she purifies the fat cells by placing them in a special machine that prepares them for the transfer.

Areas of the body that are frequent candidates for liposuction are:

  • Abdomen
  • Face
  • Chest
  • Thighs
  • Love handles
  • Upper arms

The Fat Transfer

Also known as fat grafting or fat harvesting, fat transfer is a safe, effective, and versatile technique that can be utilized for a range of applications.

Having harvested the fat cells via liposuction and purified them, the doctor then injects the donor fat into the part of the buttock requiring enhancement. The number of injections used depends on a number of factors, including the patient’s physiology and desired results. The doctor often has to massage the area to achieve the desired contour and ensure the fat is positioned correctly.

The procedure effectively “recycles” your own fat by harvesting it from areas of the body that have excess fat. The advantages of fat grafting are twofold: one area can be sculpted and another enhanced.

The Recovery

After the procedure is finished, you’ll have to avoid prolonged sitting for about two weeks and sleep face down or on your side while your buttocks heal. After that, you should be able to slowly return to your normal lifestyle.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a liposuction but also think you may benefit from some enhancement of the buttock area, you may be a good candidate for this combination procedure. Contact us today to set up a consultation!
