As with everything else, plastic surgery procedures come in and out of fashion with the times. Which procedures are trending in early 2015? The American Society of Plastic Surgeons just released some data based on numbers of procedures in 2014 as compared to those in 2013. Some of the information on this list is hardly a surprise, while other parts offer valuable insights into emerging trends in the field.

First, let’s look at the top procedures of 2014:

  1. Breast Augmentationthe procedure is up 35% from the year 2000. Notably, breast implant removals are down 42% in the same period, which shows the strides in quality and reliability of the procedures that have been made over the past decade.
  2. Nose Reshaping—the number of nose reshaping procedures actually declined slightly (2%) since last year, but it is still by far the second most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States.
  3. Liposuction—this procedure was up 5% since last year, which is a significant increase.
  4. Eyelid Surgery—close after liposuction is blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, with over 200,000 procedures taking place every year in the US alone.
  5. Facelift—the facelift procedure is as popular as ever, and its numbers have stayed pretty much steady for the past decade.

Then, there are the procedures with the largest increase from 2013 to 2014, which present some interesting insights:

  1. Pectoral Implants – this procedures for males is up a whopping 208% from 2013, showing that men are finally becoming more comfortable with considering plastic surgery as a valid option for self-enhancement.
  2. Buttock Implants – up 98% from 2013, the buttock region is clearly having a moment in US popular culture, and this is reflected in the rate of procedures.
  3. Buttock Lift – along the same lines as the above, the buttock lift procedure is up 44% from 2013.
  4. Upper Art Lift – this procedure grew by only 3% last year, but is worth mentioning because it has increased by a mind-boggling 4700% since the year 2000. Clearly, many women are seeking improved definition in the upper arm region.

When it came non-invasive treatments, trusted procedures like Juvaderm, chemical peels, and Botox topped the list, all increasing around 7% from 2013.
