For many people, the month of October brings to mind images of colorful landscapes and the feel of a cool autumn air, but more importantly, the month of October delivers a message. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are reminded that the early detection and treatment of breast cancer will greatly increase the chances of survival. Awareness begins by knowing who is at risk, following the guidelines for early detection, supporting recovery programs and joining others in the search for a cure. In recognition of breast cancer awareness month, St. Charles Plastic Surgery would like to share an event that happened earlier this year.
Each year on Mother’s Day, thousands of people gather at Grant Park to be a part of the largest cause-related event in Chicago, the Y-ME RACE Against Breast Cancer. Shortly after sunrise, the park opened and St. Charles Plastic Surgery team members could be seen filling their water-bottles, tightening their walking shoes and energizing their bodies with fruit and muffins as they geared up for the race. United together by a common goal – to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.
And while everyone eagerly looks forward to someday finding a cure, there are so many facing breast cancer that need funding and support today. We would like to thank those who supported our team by joining or donating. Our team of almost 60 members enjoyed the beautiful morning together having exceeded the team goal by raising over $7700.00. St. Charles Plastic Surgery’s theme for this year’s race, which was reflected in the team promotion material, as well as on the team t-shirt, was The Power of Pink: Fears Conquered. Strength Gained. Lives Saved. This is the Power of Pink.”
Because we want to continue to make a difference in the lives of families facing breast cancer, we will be back again next year. Join us, and experience for yourself “the power of pink”.
